According to readers of Travel + Leisure, Big Cedar Lodge is the best resort hotel in the Midwest

Johnny Morris’s wilderness destination near Branson is the first to win this category, a new addition to the magazine’s annual World’s Best Awards.

"Everyone at Big Cedar Lodge is honored to be recognized as the best resort in the Midwest by the readers of Travel + Leisure,” Morris said in a press release on Thursday. "We take tremendous pride in providing our guests with an experience that showcases the best the region has to offer—unspoiled natural beauty and genuine Ozarks hospitality."

Big Cedar beat two resorts in Wisconsin and two others in Michigan and Indiana. The awards are based on results from a reader survey and rate travel destinations, hotels, spas, cruise lines, transportation and tours and safaris. The 2016 awards for resort hotels were divided into seven geographic regions.

The 800-acre property overlooking Table Rock Lake includes four restaurants, five swimming pools, an 18,000-square-foot spa, event space for meetings and weddings and easy access to Top of the Rock and Dogwood Canyon, two other attractions backed by Morris. Next year, an activity center is slated to open at the resort with an arcade, bowling alley, ropes course and go-kart track.
