Biz 417 is proud to announce that its feature titled the “Altered State: The Business of Pot in Missouri” earned gold for Explanatory Journalism: Small in The Alliance of Area Business Publishers. The cover story ran in the September/October 2019 issue.

Written by Adrienne Donica and designed by Alex Wolken, the feature examines Missouri’s new medical marijuana industry and how it could impact southwest Missouri. “This package is a focused look at how the legalization of medical marijuana could provide opportunities and challenges for southwest Missouri businesses,” said Reuben Stern, emcee and director of the New York Program at the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism. “It provides well-researched answers to a handful of key questions.”

This year’s ceremony was hosted virtually and broadcast through Facebook Live. The awards were determined by a panel of judges who work at the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism. D Business won silver in the same category for its feature titled “Cellular Defense.”
