Great-Grandma’s Apple Cake

Hailey Penner's apple cheesecake is the grand champion of the apple baking competition at Seymour’s Apple Festival.

2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon cloves
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
½ cup raisins
1 cup walnut pieces
1 cup thick applesauce
To prepare
Sift flour and baking soda, salt and spices three times, then set aside. 

Cream butter, then gradually add sugar, beating after each addition. Add the egg and beat well. Stir in raisins and nuts. 

Alternating, add the dry ingredients and applesauce to the butter mixture, beating until smooth after each addition. 

Pour the batter into a greased 9-by-9-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350˚ for 1 hour and 25 minutes.
