Kristy Chastain On Making the Leap to Ownership

“My husband was already in manufacturing [with eight years as a project manager at Central States Industrial], and a lot of the commercial lending I did [across more than 20 years in commercial banking] was manufacturing focused. This company also had really good bones. There was an excellent client base, the employees are loyal, have been here a long time, and are talented craftsmen, which makes the transition easier as well.”

On Where She Looks for Inspiration

Kristy says there’s a lot of potential at Advanced Metal Fabricators, a custom sheet metal fabricator serving both residential and commercial customers. She wants to make sure employees can access the same kind of benefits that were offered when they were W-2 employees. “The goal is to get to the point where everything is easy, at your fingertips, for management, the employees, and the clients,” she says.

On Advice For Her Younger Self

“Do it sooner. Don’t be afraid. You’re afraid to take risks, you think the unknown is something you could fail at. The truth is, some of these things are easier than you can imagine, and it’s a matter the right attitude, working with good people, bringing the right people along and having a team atmosphere.”

On Collaborating With Her Husband

“I love working with my husband. I love the fact that we’re a team. It’s fun when we’re away from the office and brainstorming things we can do to make an even better environment. It’s fun being able to have impact and do those things together. A true partnership in every sense of the word.”
