Joplin Greenhouse is where locals go when they want to get a dose of dopamine in the form of a Boston fern or geranium paired with a great cup of coffee. Curt and Jill Carr opened the nursery in 2001, and they've grown the business alongside their plants as they evolved and pivoted. In the past, they tried expanding the business with a full-service bird supply store, a floral shop, a wholesale produce market, and a retail organic food market. But ultimately, the one expansion concept that stuck was the on-site coffee shop they opened in 2018, and now The Joplin Greenhouse is a destination for vines, blooms, lattes and puffles (think waffles, but even more fluffy and addictive). The coffee shop increased foot traffic to their nursery and, in turn, increased business revenue. The Carrs now grow all of the plants they sell, and in 2025, they opened Outpost Coffee at their farm in Diamond, Missouri.
