5 Pound Apparel is changing it up: Owner Bryan Simpson has officially sold the business six years after opening up shop. 5 Pound was originally founded in a college living room in 2010 when Simpson and friends discovered a love for screen printing. Today, the business boasts two retail locations, an online store and a private label wholesale business.

Local couple Ben and Brina Thomas purchased the business; they will take over operations immediately while working with Simpson to ensure a smooth transition. The new owners come to 5 Pound with backgrounds in finance and fashion merchandising, respectively. According to a press release, the Thomases plan to continue 5 Pound's philanthropic mission while growing the wholesale and online operations.

"I'm really excited about the new owners coming in," says Olivia Bacon, assistant manager. "I think they will help the business continue to grow in a positive direction. They know about small businesses, and I think 5 Pound's future holds a lot of good things."
